5 Ways Being Organized Can Change Your Life
Through my journey in starting The Madness Method, I’ve opened up quite a bit in sharing how organizing has played a massive role in my personal success and mental stability. But to be as granular as possible, and help you understand how the same or better impacts can be made in your day to day, I’ve curated a list of the top five ways I believe an organized space can change the lives of those who invest the time and effort in creating sustainable systems.
(Let’s be clear, there are 100 other reasons an organized space and mind are not only beneficial, but necessary. Today we will start with the most fundamental!)
Reduced Stress
Sit with yourself for a moment, consider the last time you felt overwhelmed or stressed in your space. Was it because you couldn’t find something you were looking for? You stubbed your toe on something that sits out without a permanent home? Does it seem like you are constantly cleaning up the kitchen or bathroom? Did you feel rushed because your life generally lacks productivity and structure?
Reading through each of those scenarios it is obvious that if solved for, the stress in each of those situations would be minimized, or even removed completely! If everythign in your home or space has a purpose and a place to live, you avoid spending minutes or hours searching for it. If you keep the counters clutter free your space will automatically feel cleaner. And with all objects having zones and homes, the clean up process becomes a much quicker/simpler fix.
It is also important to note that the state of your physical space heavily influences the productivity and structure in the rest of your life. Which leads me to our next point….
Improved Productivity
You are about to go on an international trip. You need to find your passport, an outlet converter, travel size bottles… the list goes on and on. This will ultimately lead to stress or frustration over packing, and putting it off to the last minute.
Consider a scenario where you had a travel shelf that housed all of these items in one place? Doesn’t it sound like something straight out of an aesthetic TikTok you dream of having? Well you can!!! Having it set up this way will reduce the time it takes to pack, giving you minutes/hours back in your day!
This is just one of many ways your productivity can increase with organization in your life and physical spaces. Establishing consistent orderly practices and systems in your life will ultimately stem into your workplace and relationships as well.
Save Time
When you get home from a long day, are you kicking off your shoes by the front door, throwing your keys on the kitchen counter, your purse near the couch on the floor, and unintentionally taking off your sunglasses in a new place every day?
Imagine the next time you want to leave the house, you now have to look for four important items before you pick up to take off again. Imagine the time it takes to do that just based off memory!
Now imagine you had a purse hook, key/glasses dish, and shoe rack right next to the front door? Simple (and low cost) solutions that can make a world of a difference when you next leave.
NAPO reports that on average we spend one year of our lives looking for lost items. Taking your time and power back by giving everything a home that makes sense to YOUR lifestyle is the most fundamental way to save time and energy in your life and spaces.
Save Money
Imagine it is your cousin's 12th birthday party. You know you have a gift bag and tissue paper somewhere in the house, but you are in a rush and simply cannot find it. What are your options? Keep searching or go spend $9 on new stuff. Because you are in a rush, you’re likely going to head to CVS and pick up that unnecessary bag.
What about your pantry… do you ever buy extra almond milk, chocolate chips, protein bars, or Liquid IVs and when you run out of the current stuff completely forget more is there and buy extra at the store? We have all done it, but does this seem like the best use of our money?!
Whether you are creating a dedicated drawer or bins for gift wrap, or creating functional systems in your deep pantry shelves - you can save money by knowing what you have and where exactly to find it. Time crunch or not, you are going to be set!
Boost Confidence
Is there an area in your home you don’t feel proud of? Closing it off when you have company? If your friends want to borrow clothes for a night out, are you warning them “sorry it is a mess!” before you let them in? What about the guest bathroom, is it visitor ready?
Keeping an organized and functional space will not only boost the confidence you have in your space for both guests or in the background of photos, but also make you feel proud to host and call your home, your own. Nothing feels better than being excited about the places that are truly a reflection of who you are.
