Living in Hat Hell? Read This..

“How do I organize my hats?” “Where do I store them?”

“Madison, I can’t see everything I have because they are piled on top of each other, SOS!!!”

If you’ve been in my DM’s trying to find hat organizing solutions, or if you are asking yourself these questions every time you go to grab a cap for the beach this summer, then you are in the right place!

Today I will walk you through the various ways of storing and organizing all types of hats, and there are a TON of options. So buckle up and let’s get to it!

Solution #1: Back of Door Storage

Do not underestimate the opportunities of storage behind your doors! Whether it be your closet doors (meaning those swinging on hinges), or the back of bedroom/storage closet doors, this is a prime place to keep your hats.

Starting from left to right: (Clickable Links)

  1. Cap Rack: These are simple to install, can store 40 different baseball caps (and likely 15-20 large brim hats). They have a secure technology that protects the hats from flying around as the door opens and closes.

  2. Hat Rack: A similar function, but these can hold every type of hat under the sun. Beanies, wide brim, baseball, wigs….. You name it!!

  3. Pocketed Hat Organizer: Typically used for shoes, these are an equally efficient solution for storing baseball caps and beanies.

Solution #2: Wall storage

Find an empty spot on the wall of your office, bedroom, bathroom, even living room or hallway!  These make for an easy grab n’ go situation as you walk out the door for the day! And not to mention, they are cheap and renter friendly… free decor and a nice display!

  1. Command Hooks: As we have discussed in our Tidy Tips segment - these are fail proof! Cowboy hats with an odd shape, big ol’ beach hats that lose shape… you get the idea, these work for all of it!

  1. Thumbtacks: Although these are not my preferred method, they do still work! This makes it easy to move around the placement of your hats as your collection grows or changes.

Solution #3: Boxes

Got empty floor space in your closet? Open shelving you don’t know how to purpose? What about a top shelf in your closet that wastes a ton of vertical space?? Consider implementing hat boxes to keep things visible, and to best use the space you have at your disposal!

  1. Drop Front Boxes: For the most clean and cohesive look, drop front storage boxes (also typically used for shoes) are a great option! They keep items concealed, stack on top of each other, and maximize vertical space like no other solution. Double up by color or style to know where to look if you are quite the hat collector…

  2. Collapsible Hat Boxes: For my ladies and gentlemen that love their big brimmed hats (I know I do..), try getting one or a few of these! When you are not using them they collapse nicely, and when you are they can stack on top of each other and give you a peep into what is inside each bin!

Solution #4: Hooks/Hanging

If you have extra hanging space in your main or spare closet, you can get many kinds of hooks that provide hanging solutions for your hats! The nice thing about this is that they will stay in great condition without touching each other, the floor, or other dusty crevices. You will also have full visibility into every hat you own in an organized fashion! Here are two i would suggest purchasing

  1. Hanging Curtain Clips: Making for a simple solution, these types of hooks hang nicely and create ease of removal and restoring!

  2. Gliding Shower Hooks: Our trusty versatile Tidy Tip suggestion. They keep making their appearance and you can see why :)

It is very common to feel overwhelmed by where to begin, lost on how to systemize, and ultimately like your space is a lost cause or not enough. I am here to tell you that the power is in YOUR hands to find peace and productivity through the process of organizing, and what feels impossible is certainly not. So start now! If you struggle with hat solutions, here is your sign to kick the excuses and get started! Let me know how you do - I love hearing y’alls success stories.

XO,

Madison
