5 Signs You Need to Start Organizing
Do you at times question whether or not you are in need of organizing help? It is common to feel as though you have begun the process but can’t quite get it right. Purchasing products, tossing items into them, and watching the mess build up again. It is also entirely common to not know when or where to begin altogether.
So how do you know when it is the right time to get started on this kind of project? Whether you are hiring a professional or approaching the space yourself, there are a few tell-tale signs that you are ready and in need of finding organized systems in your home. So let’s get started!
#1 Noticing that you are unproductive in your personal space.
An unorganized space generally leads to an unorganized mind - and productivity stems from a lack of distraction. A clean and purposeful space can eliminate the feeling that there are other things to address at a later time. Consider this - if you are attempting to get one task at work done, but you keep eyeing the stack of messy bills sitting next to you, your focus is likely on the later objective you have of paying the current ones and trashing those that can be. When you begin to notice that you are attempting to multitask often and hardly feel settled in your [meant to be] productive spaces, it is definitely time to seek organizing help!
#2 Feeling as though you are constantly cleaning.
Oftentimes when an area within the home lacks maintainable organization, the version of “clean” you get is simply concealing messes in hidden drawers, cupboards, or even in corners of exposed spaces! Picture your kitchen - do you have a plethora of appliances on your counter, leaving no space to cook efficiently? When you pick up the space after cooking, are you left with your spices sitting out or on the back of your oven? Do your pots and pans remain on the stove because you haven’t found the right place to keep them all together and away?
As an example, the kitchen is the place the whole family visits throughout the day. If there are not intentional places for things to go, items tend to get shoved away or even left out and you will always find yourself feeling like you need to clean up. I mean, from the naked eye, even a “clean” kitchen won’t look clean if you see clutter each time you enter. This is applicable to all spaces within the home, and in this case, it is definitely time to get organized!
#3 Purchasing doubles of items.
We have all done it… heading to the store to purchase new olive oil while you have some sealed in the back of the pantry, stamps for that one thank you note you need to send while a roll lives in the junk drawer you hardly open, and even new travel sized bottles for the last minute trip you booked as perfectly decent ones live in that random travel bag you now think is out of style.
It happens to everyone - if ‘everyone’ are those who lack organized systems in the home. Ensuring that you know exactly where to look for back stock or other important items will eliminate monetary waste and allow you to maximize use of the things you spend your well-earned money on!
#4 Not being able to find what you need, when you need it.
In the same line of thinking as point number three, when you are in a rush to complete something, cook something, pack something, you don’t have the luxury of time to go digging through the whole pantry or junk drawer to find that one thing.
If you constantly find yourself questioning - “where is that dang….??” It is time to refresh your space with some organized systems!
#5 Feeling ashamed to host - often saying, “I’m sorry for the mess” to your guests.
Are you hesitant to invite friends over because of the clutter that exists in your home? When you do have company, are you on autopilot in saying, “please excuse the mess”?
You are not alone. It is common and natural to feel embarrassed or less than confident about your home when you know deep down it has more potential. And quite simply put, if you experience this, it is time for you to turn it around and create systems that make you WANT to have friends and family over for a game night or relaxing dinner.
In conclusion, if you found yourself nodding your head in agreement with any or all of the points above, do not worry! That is the first step in driving change within your space and inherently your mindset and lifestyle. You can do it yourself or hire help! And the answer to which direction to choose comes down to time, knowledge and motivation. If you lack those things, come find me! I will help you make that change you are longing for.
